KM does seem to evoke mixed and sometimes extreme reactions among decison makers within organisations.
Every one from CEO, to Managers, to employees have a view on KM. and they rightly do as it impacts them.
It does seem that Collaborative KM is one way forward, rather than participative KM.
Inherently the notion that there will be a ‘KM System’ where employees will go and share their knowledge with others may not work due to various reasons.
Collaborative KM may address some, if not all, the issues of participative KM.
Also with outsourcing/offshoring, a new kind of issue will face organisations. How to retain knowledge and build expertise when most, if not all, work is done by teams which are external to the organisation, and are thouand of miles away.
